InMotion Ventures invests in transport credit startup Validated

We’ve completed a seed investment in transport credit start-up Validated, which integrates mobility providers with brick and mortar retailers to provide innovative reward schemes.

Expanding the familiar concept of businesses validating their customers’ parking, Validated users that hit spending targets can earn credits which can be used to pay for mobility services including ride sharing, car sharing, parking and mass transit. Consumers benefit by recouping travel costs, while businesses can increase sales and build customer loyalty.

Founded in 2014 by Tov Arneson, Ian Lyman and Alex Wilhelm, Validated is a graduate of both the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Incubator in Portland and the Techstars programme in Seattle.

Now live in 13 US cities including New York, Los Angeles and Seattle, Validated has upwards of 50 merchant partners and is partnering with Lyft, ReachNow, PayByPhone, BIKETOWN, and SpotHero.

Sebastian Peck, Managing Director at InMotion Ventures, says: “Validated is a hugely exciting business with a fresh approach that illustrates how mobility might augment retail and hospitality in the future.

“InMotion is excited to build on a relationship that began when the company entered Jaguar Land Rover’s incubator in Portland, and we look forward to supporting Validated’s future growth.”

Tov Arneson, CEO and co-founder of Validated, says: “We are thrilled to be backed by InMotion and Jaguar Land Rover. They share our vision of connecting commerce with mobility and we look forward to working together to accelerate their mobility initiatives.”

Validated joins other recent investments and fellow Techstars graduates SPLT and GoKid in the InMotion Ventures portfolio.
